Assemblyman-aspirant shoots supporters in Kumasi

Police in Kumasi have arrested an assemblyman-aspirant in Afia Kobi for reportedly shooting at some youth in the area, injuring three of them.

Mohammed Kamal had attempted opening fire at another aspirant, who he claims, had disrupted his clean up exercise as part of his campaign strategy. But he ended up shooting at his own supporters.

Three of his supporters sustained serious injuries and are being treated at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The Zongo Police commander Chief Superintendent Rev. Adane Ameyaw told Starr News the police will investigate the matter to the latter.

“He fired the warning shots and in the process, the pump-action gun he was using got locked up with an ammunition in the chamber so he brought it down to remove it.

“He, in the process, fired unintentionally and hit his own associate member’s leg and then carried him to the hospital. Currently, the matter is being investigated and the weapon is in detention,” he explained.
