Although
the Ghana Medical Association has called of its three-week nationwide
strike – they are to meet Listowel Nana Kusi-Poku, General Secretary of
the United Front Party (UFP), in court today.
Listowell filed a
writ on August 6 at the Labor and Industrial Division of the Accra Fast
Track High Court, seeking the legality of the strike action by members
of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA).
On their first meeting in
court – legal counsels for the Ghana Medical Association (GMA)
requested for some time to file an application to oppose the writ after
questioning the right of the General Secretary of the UFP to drag
members of the association to court over their nationwide strike. The
court however granted the doctors’ request for more time and adjourned
the case to August 26 – but despite the doctors’ call off strike, they
are to reappear in court to justify the legality of their strike which
according reports claimed about 500 lives.
Speaking to Peacefmonline.com,Listowell
maintained that – “Some of doctors have called on me to withdraw the
case, but I am not doing that. We have to prevent such illegal strike
from happening again in the future.” |
