The
Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has reiterated its position on the
need for National Identification Authority (NIA) to be resourced to
provide a credible database for a new voters register.
According
to the PPP, that is the only way the Electoral Commission (EC) can
provide the country with a credible voters register devoid of flaws and
contrary to the stance taken by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP)
which is calling for a new voters register.
Speaking to this
reporter in an interview yesterday, the National Youth Coordinator of
the PPP, Divine Nkrumah, stressed that though the PPP wanted a credible
register, the way to go about it was not to have a new register.
Instead,
he said what the country needed at the moment was to ensure that the
NIA was adequately resourced to provide database for the 2016 polls.
His comments follow calls by the NPP for a new voters register.
The
NPP has on several occasions called the credibility of the current
voters register into question, describing it as bloated and has
constantly pushed for a review.
But the PPP youth leader insisted that that was not the solution to the problem. |
