Member on the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament Major
Derrick Oduro (rtd) has lauded the Ghana Armed Forces for coming out
with a strategy to screen persons who intend gaining entrance into
its headquarters, Burma Camp.
 Henceforth, persons without
national identification cards would not be allowed entry into Burma
Camp. The decision according to Major Derrick Oduro (rtd) is not
primarily aimed at checking the ISIS scare recently reported in Ghana,
but is to inform everyone that “Burma Camp is the abode of soldiers and
not everyone is allowed to walk in and out anyhow.”

Speaking on Peace FM’s midday news,
the Member of Parliament for Nkoranza North revealed that years back,
civilians could only have access to the abode of soldiers if they were
able to explain their mission to security guards at checkpoints.

 “In
the past, it was only the military officer, his wife and children below
18yrs who were allowed to reside in the camp. But the case is different
today. Family members of a soldier are allowed to live with him and
because of the difficult economic situation, his children above 18years
are forced to continue living with them”, he said.

 He was
optimistic the strategy would restrict ‘bad’ nuts from entering the
military zone where the nation’s amouries are kept and send a strong
signal to perhaps members of ISIS and other terrorist groups that Ghana
isn’t a safe haven for them.
